René van der Linden, President of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), made a working visit to Turkey from 25 to 29 October 2006.

In Ankara, at meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gül, he was due to discuss Turkey-Council of Europe relations and raise the issue of Turkey’s EU accession negotiations. 

The President also attended a round table discussion with legal and human rights experts at Istanbul Bilgi University on 27 October 2006. The following day he laid a wreath at the Gallipoli War Memorial and visited the war graves there.
