The first training for Judges of the Family Courts and Prosecutors, of the project "Strengthening Respect for Human Rights of Women in Turkey", conducted by Istanbul Bilgi University Human Rights Law Research Center and supported by Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, was held between on 23-26 October 2007 in Istanbul.
The seminar lasted for four days and 14 familiy court judges and 15 prosecuters participated.
The local experts were selected by Bilgi University and the international expert was selected by RWI. The local experts were Prof. Turgut Tarhanlı (Dean, Istanbul Bilgi University, Faculty of Law), Ali Güzel (reserve member at the Constitutional Court), Feride Acar (Chairwoman, Middle East Technical University, Department of Political Science and Public Administration, Ex-Chairwoman of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women), Assoc. Prof. Bertil Emrah Oder (Koç University, Faculty of Law), Assoc. Prof. Ufuk Sezgin (Kocaeli University, Center for Psychological Trauma and Disaster Relief Studies), Fatma Şahin (Member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, president of the committee for the prevention of honor crimes and violence against women and children), Assoc. Prof. Şükran Şıpka (Istanbul Commerce University, Faculty of Law) Dr. Asuman A. İnceoğlu (Istanbul Bilgi University, Faculty of Law). The international expert was Göran Melander.
