İdil Elveriş from Istanbul Bilgi University Human Rights Law Research Center attended the 10th European European Pro Bono Forum held in Amsterdam between 16-18 November. Elveriş also participated as one of PILNET’s jury members and became one of the presenters of the "Award for Local Pro Bono Impact" granted to Romanian NGO called ACTEDO.
The forum started with a report written by Lamin Khadar on the history and present state of pro bono in Europe. Panels discussed the promotion of pro bono clearinghouses as social structures taking part on legal reforms. It was stressed that pro bono could be part of transitional justice processes and used for the protection of civil society and human rights defenders. The importance of pro bono in young lawyers’ perspective on legal profession was also an important discussion topic. At the present time, it is unclear where the next Pro Bono Forum will be held.
