European Conference on Domestic Violence was organised and hosted by Queens University from 6 to 9 September 2015 in Belfast. More than 400 participants from different countries of Europe shared the results of their studies in the field of violence against women, intimate partner violence and domestic violence. Throughout the conference 48 oral paper sessions, 23 workshops, 15 symposia and 7 plenary sessions were held. Some of the themes of the conference were as follows: prevention and intervention strategies, empowerment, honour-based violence, domestic violence and mental health, culture and violence.
Sevinç Eryılmaz from Istanbul Bilgi University Human Rights Law Research Center presented the paper entitled “Universalism-Cultural Relativism Debate in Germany in Cases of Honour-Related Killings against Women Who Originated from Turkey” in the conference in session entitled "Honour-Based Violence". The other participants in the same session were Estibaliz Jimenez and Marie-Marthe Cousineau from Canada (Domestic Violence and Honour Based Violence: The Canadian Context), Mehrdad Darvishpour from Sweden (Honour Related Violence and Shelters for Children), Lis Bates from the United Kingdom (Police Identification of Honour-Based Abuse in England and Wales).
