COMPASS is produced within the framework of the Human Rights Education Youth Programme, which was launched in 2000 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights by the Directorate of Youth and Sport of the Council of Europe and Turkish version has published by Istanbul Bilgi University Press within Human Rights Law Studies.
Human rights cannot be defended by legal measures alone. They need to be protected and safeguarded by everyone, including young people.
COMPASS is a manual on human rights education providing youth leaders, teachers and other educators, whether professionals or volunteers, with concrete ideas and practical activities to engage, involve and motivate young people to form a positive awareness of human rights in their own ways and in their own communities. It promotes a broad understanding of human rights education - educational programmes and activities that focus on promoting equality in human dignity - and sees young people as a resource.
Developed by a multi-disciplinary and intercultural team of writers and educators, COMPASS is based on experiential and non-formal educational approaches that put the emphasis on the learners, their environment and their own concerns (working from young people's starting points).
COMPASS is produced within the framework of the Human Rights Education Youth Programme, which was launched in 2000 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights by the Directorate of Youth and Sport of the Council of Europe. The programme aims to put human rights at the centre of youth work and thereby to contribute to the bringing up of human rights education into the mainstream. COMPASS which is translated in many world languages, as well as into Turkish, offers different approaches and directions for everyone who is interested in human rights, democracy and citizenship.
It is expected that the Turkish translation of COMPASS will contribute to the developments in the field of human rights of Turkey.
