Marmara University Sociology Department, Kassel University Sociology Department and Association of Social Sciences for Health (SASBIL) organised a symposium on “Migration, Gender and Health” in Marmara University Göztepe Campus on 5-6 November 2015. Women refugees and migrants, discrimination against women, social exclusion, poverty, women migrants in Turkey in the labour market and human trafficking are among issues discussed. Burcu Yeşiladalı from Human Rights Law Research Center presented the paper entitled: “Poverty, Social Exclusion and Discrimination: The Case of Roma Women in Tarlabaşı”.
The symposium is held in the scope of the project “Migration, Gender and Health: Turkish-German Interaction from a Different Perspective” run by sociology departments of Marmara and Kassel universities. The project, supported by DAAD aims at academic dialogue and cooperation between Turkey and Germany in the area of migration and gender research.
