Istanbul Bilgi University Human Rights Law Research Centre conducted a panel discussion on "Women’s Rights Against Domestic Violence" on 11 December 2004.

Prof. Yakın Ertürk (United Nations Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women), Prof. Lawrence I. Schäfer (Oxford Brookes University, School of Social Science and Law, United Kingdom), Filiz Kerestecioğlu (Founder Member, Istanbul Bar Association, Women’s Rights Implementation Centre) and Assoc. Prof. Arus Yumul (Director of Sociology Department, Istanbul Bilgi University) gave speech at the panel which was moderated by Prof. Lale Duruiz (Rector of Istanbul Bilgi University and Member of European Commission, Helsinki Group on Women and Science). During the panel, United Nations and domestic violence, the mandate of the Special Rapporteur, domestic violence in the UK criminal, civil law and the Human Rights Act, domestic violence in Turkish law and problems of implementation and violence against women from a sociological perspective were discussed.
