Istanbul Bilgi University Faculty of Law was conducted a round table meeting on 13 June 2006. Richard L. Siegel, (Professor Emeritus, University of Nevada), gave a speech on "Law, Public Policy and Human Rights".
Richard Lewis Siegel is available for seminars and lecturing on human rights issues as well as consulting for non-profit and for-profit organizations on public policy, governmental relations, and organizational matters.
A Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Nevada, Reno, he has broad state, national and international experience as a scholar and practitioner in diverse areas of human rights. He publishes on transitional justice, civil liberties, criminal justice and socioeconomic rights.
Siegel recently consulted for the United Nations Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and published reports and book chapters for those organizations.
In recent years Siegel lectured at conferences and universities on four continents, and has recently added lectures on U.S. Human Rights Policy: A Critical View and The Global Effort to Abolish the Death Penalty.
He is President of the American Civil Liberties Union of Nevada. His leadership at ACLU of Nevada, which he helped found and develop, encompasses most of Siegel's adult life. He served on the National Board of ACLU for thirteen years, helping to create its public education and international human rights programs.
As both an academic and practitioner in relation to organizations, politics and public policy, his life incorporates scholarship, public service, advocacy, and activism. An expert on politics and policy in the State of Nevada, he founded the Nevada Public Affairs Review. He also represented the ACLU in the Nevada Legislature, served on state policy committees for decades.
