Training of Turkish Judges and Public Prosecutors on Human Rights and Strengthening the Local Capacity for the Internalization of Human Rights Standards (September 2006-September 2009)

The objective of this project is to develop the local capacity of Turkish Judiciary with respect to interpretation and application of universal human rights standards and to secure the legal and institutional guarantees necessary for the protection of human rights in Turkey. The project aims to improve systematic training of judges and public prosecutors on the international standards of protection of human rights and their domestic application, toward increased compliance with European norms. At the end of the project period, 480 judges and public prosecutors will be reached and trained on issues relevant to their profession and their fields. The project is supported by Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MATRA). Consortium members are Utrecht University School of Law, the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights and Turkish Justice Academy.
