Training Programme for Turkish Judges and Prosecutors (October 2003-June 2004)

This project aimed at running training seminars in Lund and Strasbourg for Turkish judges and prosecutors affiliated with the State Security Courts and Court of Cassation. The programme intended to reinforce the knowledge in international and European human rights standards, particularly those related to the administration of justice. Fifty judges and prosecutors, who were determined by the Ministry of Justice taking into consideration the geographical distribution and gender balance, attended the seminars in two separate groups. A follow up meeting which brought these two groups together was organised by Istanbul Bilgi University Human Rights Law Research Center. The judges and prosecutors who attended the seminars had the possibility to reinforce the knowledge they obtained through applying it in the case studies. The project is implemented in partnership with Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law (RWI) with the support from Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
